It rolls fairly easily (like all wooden toys do, it has some friction in the axle where it doesn't roll far).It is a simple quality wood toy. These are perfect for allowing creative independent play for a toddler. For young infants, rolling toys are ideal for encouraging tracking and head turning during tummy time.As far as safety goes... There are not any parts that would fall off of this, so it feels safe for young ones who like to explore things with their mouth. I have not tested this for lead yet and won't give it to my kids until I do. Will update my review if I have any other concerns about the quality, but my initial impression is fantastic.
